Ladies 3rd XI

The Ladies 3rd XI combines the strength and experience of some of the club’s (slightly older) stalwarts, with the youth and enthusiasm of the youngsters beginning their journey into the world of hockey. The team are currently playing in West District Division 2.

The team has been captained for the last few seasons by Jen Owen, a club member for over 25 years. Jen has played at a variety of levels, from South West District level as a schoolgirl, to several seasons in the Ladies 1st XI, before she decided to give something back to the club by taking on the challenge of 3rd XI captaincy. Jen went one step further in proving her commitment to the club in July 2011, by leading a 10,000 feet skydiving challenge to raise funds for the clubhouse!

The majority of the team are aged between 12 and 15. These girls are encouraged to attend training sessions to allow them to develop into fit, strong, skilful and committed hockey players. Schoolgirls are also encouraged to attend trials for the District teams, and many of our girls have progressed to the Scottish squads over the years. For many of our youngsters, the 3rd XI provides them with a stepping stone to the Ladies 2nd XI, and ultimately, the Ladies 1st XI.
